It's interesting to me that the part about rivers immediately precedes God’s directives to the newly-made man (in 2:15-17). There are three parts to it…
It’s interesting to note: Eden is mentioned at the end of the Bible as well. Humanity was banished from the garden after the fall (in Genesis 3:23-24), but we hear about Eden again in Revelation 22:1-5 – in John’s vision of how things ultimately will turn out. Eternally, God’s plan is to restore Eden. It’s the New Jerusalem, with the tree of life and its leaves for the healing of the nations.
